Frequently Asked Questions For Motorcycle Engines
Resolved Question: Rebuilt Motorcycle engine but....?
hello can anyone tell me about a 1987 honda cg 125 motorcycle engine,Single Cylinder 125cc Overhead Valve running on points ignition with kickstart only. Rebuilt the engine and got it thru the MOT test with flying colours then on the way home it was misfiring like crazy then died and didnt start since. After taking it apart we found the woodruff key wasnt fited properly and had shredded the slot on the crank.....Once again rebuilt the whole engine again with a new crank and woodruff key (flywheel on very tight and with loctite too) adjusted the points gap and tested plug for spark which is lovely, theres fuel getting to it (the carb hasnt been altered from last time anyway) the valve clearences have beeen set accuratley too, Oil changed and its on a brand new battery (charged, all electrics work beautiful anyway). Giving it a few kicks over and removing the plug shows its wet so there is definitley fuel getting to it and we know the plug sparks (brand new ignition coil fitted too) The engine doesnt sound like it even wants to start theres no judder just the mechanical noise of the engine turning over when its kicked and nothing from a bump start either..... I did notice quite a deep (2-3mm) little scratch on one of the four or five little 'magnets?' that go around the inside circumfrence of the flywheel which I dont think was there last time the engine was running but i cant be sure... could this be part of my problem?? The Engine Has great Compression which has not changed at all since it was running on the previous Crank! Also the last time the bike was running (on previous crank) the engine would get stupidly hot especially on the cooling fins extremely quickly (1 min from a cold start with no extra revs and it would be hot enough to blister your fingers in a second)..... (Much hotter than my chinese CG clone even after a 200+ mile ride).... The spark plug shows no signs of overheating (white coating I do beleive) but the furthest the bike has been since the first rebuild was only 3 miles to the MOT garage and despite being able to feel the heat through my jeans everything seemed ok....Topped out about 45 MPH....Im sure there is plenty room for improvement somehow no??? THese things can supposedly do 60mph (My chinese 2007 CDI Clone gets up to 70 if you give it enough road but 60 is never a problem) Please please help me if you can guys! Im really despearate to get the bike back on the road as its my commuter machine and i need it for work! Thanks alot =] Mat (York, uk) ADDITIONAL INFO!!!! Gave the engine a few kicks with a little throttle earlier today and managed to get a very loud single POP sound but that was the most I've had out of it..... Had the airbox cover off it and kicked it over and noticed what looks like a little cloud of smoke coming from the air outlet that joins the carb.... is this normal? I know this is a repost and answers so far have been great... I'd just like a few more so I get a more broad Idea of what people think is wrong with it and have more things to try fixing/adjusting/replacing later on when Im back in the garage!!!!! Cheers Guys!

Resolved Question: What determines the sound of engine makes when using engine-brake on motorcycle?
When you accelerate the engine makes a sound, but when you use the engine-brake, is another sound. What determines this sound? I'm talking about something like this: I get to let's say 4000rpm and then I release the throtle without pulling the clunch. That is not indicated? It doesn't work like car engine?

    Resolved Question: Wankel engine??
i was looking at the specs of the Mazda RX-8 when i discovered that the engine is in fact a 1.3L (something called) "Wankel rotary engine" that delivers over 250 hp!!!! i did some research about that. but what i fail to capture is: why didn't anybody else manufacture such engines (only mazda does)? why is it that the sales of this type of engine by mazda has DECREASED over time? if a 1.3L can deliver such a hp, why do other manufacturers design 3.0+L engines to deliver the same amount of power??? anyone can explain? thanx
